Layla is 14 weeks old!

Look at me, I am 14 weeks old and loving my afternoon nap.
Week 14 is our last week together before I go back to work full time. Layla and I have truly enjoyed spending the last three weeks together. So, we defiantly enjoyed each afternoon this week. Since the weather has gotten a little cooler, we truly loved cuddling up on the sofa together.
On Monday we went out with Ganny and had a great time talking, eating, and laughing. Layla began the visit in a snooze but woke up and enjoyed having Ganny holding her for a quick photo (see the picture below).
On Tuesday, Layla and Mommy just hung out at home cuddling together and watching some good day time television. We defiantly decided Oprah and the Doctors were the best shows to watch.
Then on Wednesday, we went out to eat with Grandma Nixon's Bell's Hill Bells group. And then Layla went for another play date with Caroline and met a new friend by the name of Logan. It was a lot of fun until Logan grabbed Layla's face and scared the crud out of her. Layla go so mad her face turned as red as a tomato and could barley catch her breath. But that to the hugs and love of her mommy, we were able to get over this small tragic moment. And in no time, Layla was admiring at the crawling moved Logan was performing on the floor. I can't imagine my little girl doing that in a couple of month. It just make me realize how time is just passing by so fast.
Wow things happened on Thursday. It was a rainy cool day that was calling couch potato time for us when we got home. As soon and we entered the house, Thursday afternoon, Layla got in her favorite nightly, and mom get comfy too. Then together we ate, watched a girl movie (Sweet Home Alabama) and snoozed. This was just the perfect thing the doctor ordered. Together time that was timeless. Thanks to Grandma Nixon and her sweet afternoon treats, we go a picture of this picture perfect memory. We are both looking forward the cold winter days where we will cuddle up with daddy too in front of the fireplace.
Then on Friday, we had a crazy morning and afternoon, with a change in our schedule. Mommy and Aunt Jean met up for breakfast. Then later in the morning Mommy went to work and Layla we to Mrs. Nita's. Then after a day of meeting, Mommy picked Layla up eager to hold and love on her little girl. So, yes, we went home again and cuddled up on the sofa once more for together time. It is just too perfect, if you know what I mean.
For Saturday and today, we have relaxed and joyed our family time. Daddy, Mommy, Jenny, Bill, and Layla have been lazy, lazy, lazy. Just spending time together as a happy family makes all of us feel good and ready for the busy week ahead. Thanks to the team work we have at our house, the floors are clean, the clothes are washed, and the dogs have been bathed and we are ready to vegetate in front of the T.V. to watch so good Sunday football. Having family time, has to be our favorite thing about the weekends.

Layla is 13 weeks old & 3 MONTHS OLD TODAY!!!

3 months old. I just can't believe that we have been blessed with Layla for 3 months. It is such a blessing, joy, and amazing gift from God. She has grown so much since June 21st at 9:45 p.m. Once again we have had a wonderful week, as Mommy and Layla enjoy wonderful afternoons together. For this week Layla has had a few more firsts that are just musts to mention.
On Monday we had a lunch out with a wonderful family friend, Barbra, who made the beautiful quilt you see in many of our pictures. Barbra and her family are the ones who took care of Layla's Aunt Jean, when her mommy, Nancy, was born. It was good to see Barbra and here all of the wonderful things she said about Layla being beautiful, smart, and perfect. Also, Daddy and Layla had their first night out together as Mommy went to a Junior League meeting. Daddy was just perfect. He had bathed Layla and had her ready for bed by the time Mommy got home. It was just too perfect and cute. As soon as I walked in the door, I heard the two of them talking and playing. It is such a joy to be blessed by a wonderful husband.
In addition, Layla had her first play date with Caroline who is about a month younger than Layla. Caroline and Layla layed beside each other and just kicked their legs and wiggled their arms and hands. It is truly cute, see the picture below. On Saturday, Layla had another play date with Meridith, who is 4 days younger. Meredeth and Layla talked to each other. It is so nice to see how Layla interacts with others, it is absolutely a wonderful treat to talk and visit with these new friends.
On Friday, Daddy took Layla and Mommy out on a date. Layla behaved so well, but refused to snooze a wink at the restaurant. Daddy and Mommy tried our every best to keep her quiet and content and not get too loud and bother the others who were dinning. After dinner, we enjoyed more family time, as we watched movies in our cozy den. One of the funny moments that took place Friday, included Layla being affected by the four diet cokes Mom drank throughout the day. Lets just say, caffeine must be in breast milk. Mommy will not drink that many diet cokes again. Layla was so wired that she stayed up until 1:30 a.m. Wow, Mommy and Daddy were exhausted and Mommy learned her lesson.
On Saturday we had some wonderful family time as we cleaned the house and had a family trip to the grocery store. Layla and Mommy took an three hour afternoon snooze due to the late night. Snoozing with Layla is absolutely phenomenal. Holding her in my arms. Feeling her breath against my skin. And hearing her baby moans and groans in my ear are absolutely perfect. I truly appreciate every nap time I get with my little girl.
Sunday was also an awesome day. We got to spend some time with Grandma Nixon, which is a highlight for Layla and I. We went on a walk with Grandma, who pushed Layla's stroller. Then we kicked back and enjoyed talking. As Grandma held Layla she said "It feels so good to hold this little girl. She is just perfect" Don't Grandmas have the best things to say.
One of the new things Layla is beginning to do is choose a favorite position to sleep. She has begun to raise her arms to her head and place her hand behind her ears. It is just too cute and perfect. Layla has started to do this and then fall asleep a few minute later. The top picture is a perfect example. About five minutes later she was out like a light.
Another thing is Layla sat in her highchair for the first time this weekend. We know she enjoyed placing her hands on the table and pat her hands to show us that she was enjoying herself.
Well now that Layla is 3 months old, we only know that our lives will continue to get better as she blesses us with her laugh and cries of life. You will just have to stay tuned to see what Layla does now that she is officially 3 months old.

Layla is 12 weeks old!

Wow, we had an amazing week. Mom and Layla are truly enjoying our half days together. What a wonderful concept, maternity leave. This week has been fun, busy, and tiring. For now we are a one car family, so our day is busy with getting up in the morning, driving daddy to work, dropping Layla off at Mrs. Nita's, mommy going to work, mommy picking up Layla at 12:30, mommy and Layla having fun together, then picking daddy up from work. Once we are home, life is normal with cooking dinner, bathing, going to bed, and relaxing as a family.

Labor Day was a wonderful relaxing day for the whole family. Sleeping in and chilling as a family was a necessity. Layla had a blast as mommy and daddy cooked in the kitchen together. We defiantly made a mess and Layla enjoyed laughing at us as we tried to clean it up. Cooking as a family is an exciting thing we love doing.

On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we continued to shuffle our schedule with one car. Layla and I truly loved picking Daddy up from work with a big smile on our faces and many kisses to give him. Layla and I did enjoy our old habit of taking an afternoon nap together before we picked daddy up. The act of snoozing with Layla on my chest is just toooo good. I truly have to say, I miss these daily naps with my baby girl.

This weekend was once again an relaxing one. Mom and Layla went to the Alpha Delta Kappa meeting. Then we came home and tried to clean house and do the wonderful laundry that piles up throughout the week. But the amazing thing that took place this week and weekend was it RAINED. It rained all weekend. It sprinkled, it poured, and it was drenching at time. It was just wonderful. Watching movies and curling up on the sofa was a requirement since the weather was so yucky outside. Thank God for the rain, and our first true movie weekend.

On Sunday, Layla and Dad enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys win their football game.

Some new things Layla began to do this week include more sounds as she coooos and talks. She just loves to make new sounds. The other amazing way she is learning to communicate is through nonverbal actions. Layla has learned to rub her eyes to tell us that she is sleepy. She uses one hand and rubs her eye for about 20 seconds. When she stops her skin around her eye is pinkish. It is just a very cute thing to see. Layla defiantly gets a good amount of shut eye once I lay her down, when I see her do her new rubbing act. It is just toooo cute.

Well, that sums up this week. A bunch of relaxing and together time as a happy family.

An afternoon nap is something we should work into our everyday work schedule.

Layla is 11 weeks old!

This was a wonderful week. Layla slept through the night. She had accomplished this on two other occasions but I think they were flukes. Because it did not happen on the next night. But this week was the first time that she consecutively slept through the night. The first night was Friday, September 4th. The next night was Saturday. So it is official, the first night Layla slept through, being seven hours of sleep, was September 4th. I also can proudly say that we have created a bedtime schedule of lights out around ten o'clock and with eyes shut and off to dream land, no later than 10:30. What a great accomplishment. Larry and I are so happy but sad because we are realizing that our baby girl is growing so fast. Last night Larry said "I want my baby girl to say this size and this way for a long time." I know he is just enjoying every minute of his time with her.

This was a wonderful week as I said, not only because Layla slept through the night, but also because we did some exciting things together. For the first part of the week Layla was feeling great and breathing through her nose without a problem. But as you can expect, she has her mother's allergies, and has had a stuffy nose since Tuesday. Nothing else has appeared due to here stuffy nose but many crying fits when it is time to squeeze the lovely snot out of her nose. Layla hates this. She absolutely hates this more than the shots, I promise you. I say this with all confidence because the shots ended and the snot remover continues to reappear in her life. This is no fun for Layla, Mommy, or Daddy. But we have to do it, so she can breath.

One other amazing this that we have to share, thanks to Grandma Nixon, is that Layla is able to breath at night due to the use of the cool misting humidifier. This is not a new humidifier that one would find at Target this day and age. But it is an older style humidifier that is at least 25 or more years old. It is the humidifier Jean and I used when we were little. And can you believe it, I am now using it for my baby. Thank you Grandma, Mom, for this wonderful amazing device that makes it easier for Layla to sleep at night.

As you can see below, Layla has begun to play in her Baby Einstein Jumper. She is not old enough to do it completely by herself. And she does not interact with all of the toys on it. But, she certainly loves to sit in it and look at the piano as it plays music back to her if she hits the keys hard enough. What a joy to watch. Layla smiles, coos, and laughs as the music of Mozart come up and out to meet with here ears. Maybe Layla will play the piano, or guitar like her father one day.

One of the great joys Layla does with us daily is talks to us every time we look at her angelic face. She is trying to copy the sounds we make as we try to copy her. It is just wonderful to see her continue to develop and master these developmental steps that are so important to her growth. I thank God for her wonderful ooooo and aaaaaa, and eeeee sounds. They are so neat to hear. One of the amazing things is that she has started to make these sound in varying pitches. High pitches and even low pitches.

Through this weekend, Layla, Mommy, and Daddy had a wonderful time playing on the living room floor and looking at the our entire family in our living room mirrors. You will see Layla in motion as she rolls over after looking at herself in the mirrors. She has become a pro at rolling over from her tummy to her back. She does not stun herself as much as the lands on her back.

Since this is a long weekend, we plan to enjoy each other for an extra day, Monday, Labor Day. We have had a wonderful time so far with movie nights and family time. It is just wonderful to have Layla attempt to sit up and try to talk to us as Daddy and Mommy cook dinner together and then enjoy eating it as a happy family.

Just one thing we (Layla and Mommy) are looking forward to are Mommy's half days at work. You will have to stay tuned to find out what exciting things we do together as mom and Layla enjoy some maternity time off.
