Layla is 10 weeks old!

What a week. Week 10 was phenomenal. So much has happened in the past 10 weeks that we thank God for all of our blessings in our lives. Layla has grown and changed in such a short amount of time. Time is just passing by tooooooo fast. Our little baby girl is just so precious and is changing just to fast.
This week began with a monumental event, Layla got her first round of immunizations. The five shots went smoothly thanks to the nurses at the doctor's office. Layla got all five shots by an amazing nurse who was very gentle. As Layla got her shots she let everyone in the office know that this was an awful, no good, very bad thing. But we got through the entire event. As I held Layla's hands, she cried and screamed at the top of her lungs. Her face turned as red an a tomato. And gasped for air between each shrieking cry. She was so loud that a nurse down the hall came over to check on this sweet little baby. I did not cry, I just kept saying "It is okay. Breath baby girl, just breath." Once the entire event was over Layla gave the nurse an angry glance and grabbed my hair telling me to "Never do that again." In addition to the shots, Layla was weighed and measured and checked out by the doctor from head to toe. Layla weighed 13 pound and was 22 inches long. Her weight is in the 90% and her head and length are in the 50% range. As you can tell Layla is a healthy baby girl. So, the doctor's appointment was very positive. Let's just hope we don't have to visit again until her 4 month checkup.
For the remaining of the week, Layla chilled and lived happily in our weekly routine. As you can see we read the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." She held onto the story props that she got at one of her mini baby showers. The Caterpillar is her favorite thing to hold because it makes a wrapping noise as she holds and squeezes it.
Layla is still loving her time with Mrs. Nita. The only thing Layla missed, we think, was Mrs. Nita's grandchildren who would play with Layla. They began school this week, so Layla gets to play with Mrs. Nita. What a life, nap, play, nap, play, and have fun all day.
This weekend was great as well. Daddy, Mommy, and Layla had a blast shopping at the grocery store. Layla relaxed in her carrier as Mom and Dad made a mad dash to shop for the week.
Below you will see Layla in one of the summer outfits, stretching and raising her body on her hippo pad. This tummy time is not her favorite activity, but she is begin to learn how to lift herself up enough to play with a toy on the floor.
Layla also got to go to church with Grandma Nixon again. This week we sat in the crying room so Layla's noises were allowed and not bothersome to everyone in church. Layla loved being held by her grandma who talks to her and makes her feel very very special. Below you will see a picture of the three of us at church.
One of Layla's new activities for the week involves my glasses, that I need to see. As you will see below for yourself, she finds my glasses to be a toy and something need to grab. Layla loves the thin things. Layla will grab them and then pull her hand back so far that they pop off my face. It is a good thing that I bought the flexible glasses. The can take a bend on her command.
With all of that said, we hope you will stay tuned to see what happens during week 11. I can only dream about the amazing things our sweet little girl with do for us and with us this coming week.
Sweet face.

They are so much fun to grab off of her face.

Layla is 9 weeks old!

Week nine has been wonderful. Without weekly routine getting established Layland I certainly cherish every moment we have together. Daily we read, sing, and play together. We start the day with at least two wonderful books form her book shelf. What a treat to do before she goes to Mrs. Nita's and I go to work. In the afternoon we cook dinner together, as Layla listens to me tell her the event that took place throughout my day. And when daddy gets home Layla eats and then we eat dinner as a happy family. We just love bed time. Relaxing with a little T.V., some music (usually tunes picked out by Dad) and some more reading. And finally our good night prayer (The Lords Prayer) and several good night kisses. Then we all get some well needed shut eye. Currently Layla is sleeping 5 hours a night. Then she wants a short snack and then snoozes a little more.
Some o the events that took place in Layla's life this week are pictured below. On Monday, Layla, Grandma Nixon, Aunt Jean, and Mom met up at Barns and Nobles for a sweet treat and a drink. We talked and had a great time. Aunt Jean fed Layla her afternoon snack. Thanks, Aunt Jean.
On Wednesday, Layla and Mom went to Queso Club, with mom's new co-workers. It was a blast. Layla was the center of attention, for some of the night. People held her, and loved on her, and said she was so beautiful. Layla was a great baby at the table. She only began to cry two times. But those cries meant "Feed Me."
On Friday, Aunt Jean, babysat, as mommy had to go to work. Jean said, Layla was a good baby. And she changed her diaper and fed her successfully.
Throughout the weekend, Layla just relaxed in the arms of her daddy. They are just the cutest together. She defiantly has him wrapped around her finger.
Layla, such a sweet little girl.

Good night sweet heart it is time for bed.

Layla is 8 weeks old!

What a week, eight have passed, and things are still going great, strong, and wonderful. Everyday is new and fun for each of us. Layla certainly keeps us on our toes from day to day and even second to second. Things are absolutely phenomenal for us all with her in our lives. The past eight weeks has been a delight that we thank God for each every single night.
This was a new week for Layla and Mom as the school year began for us. On Monday, Mom and Layla just relaxed together at the house with one small trip to eat lunch with Daddy. We slept in, as much as sleeping in for us. We woke up at five o'clock, ate, pooped, made breakfast for dad, then went back to sleep around seven o'clock. If my memory serves me correctly, we were back up around eight o'clock for food again. But, we got a little more shut eye. Layla and Mommy enjoyed another lunch date with Daddy as we ate Smalchezt sandwiches with chips and coke. On Monday afternoon Layla and Mommy enjoyed a afternoon nap on the bed where Layla slept in her favorite position. If you remember, her favorite position is curled up in a ball with her head on her mother's chest. (This has to be one of my favorite things to do with my little baby girl. I know I will miss our afternoon nap together once the school year starts.)

On Tuesday, Mom had her first day of work. It was a busy one, filled with a meeting in the morning and paper work in the afternoon. Dropping Layla off at Mrs. Nita's went very well. Layla had a big smile on her face as she saw some of her new friends there. I only called to check on Layla once to see how things were going. And yes, things were going smoothly. That afternoon, Mom left work right on the dot to pick up her little angle. That afternoon and evening, Mom just could not get enough of Layla. After dinner we all relaxed and called it an early night.

On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday things went great. We got up on time, and in the car and to Mrs. Nita's in time for Mom to get to work. But when Friday came, and Mom got to leave a little earlier, can you guess what she did? A- did she go home and take a nap B- did she go back to her office to do more work or C- did she go pick up her little girl

If you said, C, you are correct. I went to pick up Layla as soon and as quickly as I possibly could drive, according to the speed limit. But that afternoon, Layla and I enjoyed a visit from Grandma Nixon and a wonderful meal from her as well. Thanks, Grandma for the food, it was a nice treat after a week of work.

On Saturday and Sunday, as you know where great too. We relaxed, did house work, and played together. Below you can see pictures of Layla having a fun time with her book and Hippo Pad.
Layla playing on her Hippo Pad.
She still loves the shinny mirror that reflects her beautiful face.

Read, read, read. We read in the morning, we read in the afternoon, and we read at bed time.
Reading is one of the things Layla and I enjoy doing together, no matter the hour.
Look at Layla's smiling face.
She is certainly happy to see her Mommy and Daddy home from work.

Here is Layla sleeping in her crib, right before her first day at Mrs. Nita's.
She is getting closer and closer to sleeping through the night.

Layla is 7 weeks old!

Now that Layla is 7 weeks old, I am amazed at how she has grown and changed in such a short amount of time. And yes, it is time for me, Mommy, to go back to work. But that is not until Tuesday. So we have another Monday together. This week has been a joy. We have read together every single day. We probably read 15 books a day. And guess what, being an elementary school teacher, we are now just beginning to reread a few books. This week we went on a few walks together with Grandma Nixon. View the picture below of Layla in her carrier. It makes walking easier, since she is not bouncing in the stroller. During this week we got our new dishwasher, and Mommy is so excited about having a new up to date device to wash those wonderful baby bottles. What a relief. But to Moms surprise, we are not running it ever night, so some hand washing is necessary. On Thursday, we ate lunch with Ganny. It is so nice to see her and visit with her. On Thursday, during Layla's tummy time, she realized that her Hippo Pad, for tummy time, had a shinny new device. See the images below that mom took. And of course, Grandma Nixon has come by to visit almost every afternoon. On Friday, Layla went to spend an hour with Mamo and Papa. This way, Mom was able to run to the store and get a few things done in speed mode. Friday evening was another treat for the whole family, as Mommy and Daddy went out for their date night. Since this was their first date night since Layla has become a member of the family, we decided to bring her with us. We ate at Out Back. If you did not know, this is our favorite place to eat at. We had our last date night there before Layla entered the world. So, it was the perfect place to go. On On Saturday, Mom, Dad, and Layla went shopping at the Richland Mall. Mom got some new shoes. And Daddy got some new tools for work. Layla got a good cool stroll in her stroller. And today, Sunday, June 9th, has been a fun relaxing day at home. We started the morning off with breakfast with Mamo and Papa. But after breakfast, we just chilled in the cool air condition. Well, that seem like everything we have done. Stay posted for more. We love you all and wish you a wonderful week.

Originally, Layla was on her tummy.
But after turning over, she found a new shinny discovery.
It is soooooo cool seeing my little girl experimenting with her environment.

Isn't this the best.

Reading, reading, reading.
It is never tooooo soon to read.

Layla is 6 weeks old!

Week 6 ended with an amazing milestone for Layla. This morning, August 2, 2009 at 12:49, Layla rolled over for the first time. She was determined not to fall asleep, so while she played on her tummy and Mommy read some school papers, Layla rolled from her stomach to her back. Mommy was so excited, she ran to get Daddy, and Layla got to do it over and over and over. We even got this special moment on video.
For the reminder of the week, things were great. The week started off with a wonderful Monday, of staying home and cleaning the house. Layla helped out by keeping Mom on her toes with the stop and go cleaning method. Once it got done, Layla decided to snooze according to the picture below of a tuckered little girl.
On Tuesday, July 29th, Layla had her first visit to the babysitters. With only one week left till Mom has to start the school year, we both had to get the first time jitters over. Just so you know it went great. We started the morning off at 5:00 am, with a feeding, making breakfast, then getting dressed. And yes, we got out of the house on time. With a trial run, Mom made it to school just 15 minutes late. Which we thought was pretty good. At this time, Mom cleaned out her old classroom as she prepares for her new job as an Evaluation Specialist. Thanks to Debbie and Payton, things got moved in a record time. Mom only called the babysitter once to check in. Juanita said "Things are going great!" By 11:00 am Mom was picking her precious baby girl up who smiled a big smile when she entered the room. This was a relief and it feels like this arrangement will work out perfectly. Thank you Mrs. Nita for your advice. On Tuesday night Layla had another picture perfect moment with bath time (see below).
Wednesday and Thursday were relaxing days at the house. Layla and Mom took the dogs on a walk. First, Layla and Mom walked. Then Bill joined in on the fun. And after dropping off Bill, Jenny got a walk. In addition Layla kept her mom busy with the wonderful job of taking care of here little darling. On Thursday morning Layla met Alex and Arron, who are good family friends. Thank you, Acosta's for everything. Then for lunch we met up with Ganny, at LaFiesta. It was a great meal and fun. Thanks Ganny.
On Friday, Layla and Mom relaxed around the house in our P.J.'s until lunch time. At 12:00 we went for our lunch date with Daddy. This time we ate hamburgers and had a blast. The picture below shows a wiped out little girl who is dreaming of her papa. Thanks for the date dad, we love seeing you in the middle of the day.
On Saturday, Layla helped with the laundry by filling the basket full of clothes. In the afternoon she helped with a little yard work by snoozing so Mom and Dad could work in the backyard for an hour. And as you know, Sunday was a great day with the milestone of rolling over from the tummy to her back.
As summer vacation comes to an end, we hope you will continue to look for Layla's updates. Take care and have a great week. Who knows what Layla will be doing new in a week!
